Designed with both practicality and decorative appeal, the chair easily converts into a set of library steps via a hinged and folding action, revealing two graduated treads supported by sturdy side frames with brass hinges.
The shaped ladder-back features two carved horizontal splats adorned with floral and foliate motifs, echoed by further incised decoration to the uprights. The solid seat, with moulded edge and subtle line inlay, rests above turned front legs with carved detailing, united by a useful intermediate shelf that forms part of the step structure when opened. The rear supports extend into splayed rails, providing stability in both chair and step configurations.
