Description

An early 20th-century barograph housed in a well-figured oak case with glazed panels and a fitted drawer to the base. The instrument features a finely engineered brass mechanism driven by a stacked aneroid capsule assembly, transferring atmospheric pressure changes through an articulated linkage to a recording arm. This arm traces continuous readings onto a rotating paper drum calibrated by day and hour, enabling precise long-term barometric observation.
Set on a stepped oak plinth, the barograph retains its original removable glass cover, brass fittings, recording drum, and ink reservoir. The brass base plate is stamped Short & Mason, London – Made in England, confirming manufacture by one of Britain’s foremost scientific instrument makers. The warm tone and grain of the oak case complement the polished brass mechanism, underscoring both durability and refined presentation.
