Description

A fine quality late 19th / early 20th century inlaid mahogany breakfront wardrobe of generous proportions, the projecting cornice above a central pair of panelled doors flanked by slightly bowed outer sections. The exterior is richly decorated throughout with finely executed satinwood and contrasting hardwood marquetry, incorporating neoclassical motifs including urns, festoons, oval reserves and trailing foliage within shaped and fielded panels.
The central doors open to a full-length hanging compartment, fitted with a brass rail, while the flanking sections each enclose additional storage; one side configured with a series of graduated sliding trays/shelves, the other with hanging space above a deep base compartment, offering practical versatility. The interior is finished in a warm, polished tone consistent with the exterior.

The wardrobe stands on a shaped plinth base and retains its original brass handles and fittings. The gently bowed sides and architectural cornice lend a strong yet elegant presence, while the quality of the inlay and timber selection reflects skilled cabinetmaking of the Edwardian period, likely influenced by Sheraton revival taste.
