A well-proportioned late 19th-century pedestal desk in figured oak, of classic twin-pedestal form and retaining its original configuration. The rectangular top is inset with a gilt-tooled green leather writing surface, shaped with a central breakfront projection to the front edge, providing both visual emphasis and practical working depth.
The frieze is fitted with a long central drawer flanked by smaller drawers to either side, all retaining turned wooden knob handles. Each pedestal is arranged with a graduated bank of drawers, offering ample storage, and stands on a plinth base. The desk is enriched throughout with restrained carved detailing, including scrolled brackets beneath the frieze, fielded panel sides, and moulded drawer fronts, reflecting solid late Victorian craftsmanship.
The oak has matured to a warm, honeyed tone with attractive figuring and a consistent patina, showing light, age-appropriate wear.
