A fine late 19th century mahogany and brass-mounted bedstead, of generous proportions and elegant neoclassical influence, the headboard with a shaped and gently arched cresting rail above a broad, well-figured panel, framed within moulded borders and finely inlaid with brass stringing. The uprights are conceived as fluted, columnar posts with gilt-brass capitals and bases, surmounted by crisply cast acorn finials, lending a sense of architectural solidity and refinement.
The footboard is of corresponding design, slightly lower in height, with a rectangular panel framed by brass line inlay and moulded edges, the corners subtly accented with roundel mounts. It is supported on turned legs terminating in brass-collared feet with castors, allowing for ease of movement. The side rails are plain yet robust, intended for a slatted or boarded base, and retain good structural integrity.
Executed in richly toned mahogany, the bedstead displays particularly attractive figuring across the panels, with a warm, polished surface that complements the restrained use of brass ornament.
