A well-matched pair of richly carved walnut single bedsteads, executed in the Louis XV revival style, each comprising a shaped headboard and conforming footboard joined by swept side rails. The headboards are surmounted by bold, pierced crestings centred with foliate cartouches, issuing scrolling acanthus and shell ornament, demonstrating confident carving and strong Rococo influence. The serpentine outlines are accentuated by moulded borders and applied C-scroll detailing.
Each headboard encloses a finely figured veneered panel arranged in a geometric parquetry pattern, forming a subtle radiating diamond motif that enhances the visual depth of the timber. The footboards echo the same sinuous form, with central raised cartouches framed by fluid scrollwork and a pronounced shell-carved apron below. The beds stand on cabriole legs with carved knees and scrolling feet, reinforcing the characteristic lightness and movement of the Louis XV idiom.
The walnut throughout exhibits a warm, consistent tone with attractive figuring, particularly across the quartered veneer panels. The carving remains crisp and well-defined, with good preservation of detail across both beds, indicating quality manufacture.
