A distinguished pair of late 19th-century Louis XV style side chairs, expertly crafted in solid walnut and finished in a deep, lustrous polish that enhances the wood’s rich figuring and tonal warmth. The shaped crest rails are intricately carved with rocaille and foliate motifs, centred by scrolling cartouches and framed by delicate floral flourishes, embodying the graceful asymmetry and fluid movement characteristic of the Louis XV aesthetic.
The walnut frames display a mellow patina consistent with age, lending depth and authenticity to their presentation. The gently contoured backs are inset with finely hand-woven cane panels in a traditional open lattice pattern, providing visual lightness and textural contrast against the substantial carved frames. The caning is neatly tensioned and complements the elegant curvature of the moulded back supports.
Beneath, the seats are generously padded and upholstered in deep forest green leather, finished with classic button tufting to create a sumptuous and inviting surface. The leather displays a soft sheen with natural creasing that enhances its character while maintaining a refined appearance.
The shaped seat rails are enriched with carved shell and foliate ornament along the aprons, harmonising with the decorative crest rails and reinforcing the cohesive Rococo-inspired design. Each chair stands on graceful cabriole legs with carved vertical detailing, terminating in refined feet.
An elegant and decorative pair, ideal as accent seating, occasional dining chairs, or statement additions to a classical interior.
